Queen Rania urges international community to employ human understanding, personal intelligence when tackling global challenges

Amman, Sep. 3(Petra)-- Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah, on Friday, underlined that it is through human contact and interaction and through building bridges of understanding that we can actually really get to know one another and increase the level of tolerance, thereby realizing that there is much more that unites us rather than separates us. Speaking during the plenary session of the 30th Ambrosetti Conference, entitled Intelligence 2005 on the World, on Europe, on Italy, Queen Rania called on the international community to utilize 'human understanding' and 'personal intelligence' to overcome the challenges of today's world

Queen Rania receives Honorary Citizenship of Milan Award
AMMAN (JT) — Her Majesty Queen Rania was granted the Honorary Citizenship of Milan Award on Saturday, in recognition for her work and social contributions on the international front.
Milan Mayor Gabriele Albertini, who conferred the citizenship on the Queen in an official ceremony yesterday, praised all her efforts, particularly those “demonstrated towards universal themes, which have always taken up the plight of the most vulnerable people, including the protection of children's rights, education and policies in favour of the young, support to children whose lives have been damaged by war and conflict.”
He went on to say that Queen Rania's “personal and direct engagement, within the framework of the promotion of women's rights, freedom, growth and prosperity and through initiatives aimed at spreading economic development, culture, art and other human endeavours” are all deemed “milestones in the progress of all nations.” http://www.jordanembassyus.org/09042005003.htm

Iam sorry, but is this some kind of joke?? I can think of 100 other people who do a lot more than her and recieve no recognition what so ever. They should choose people who do good for humanity because they want to, not because they are Queens and Kings. Thanks for the article, Humera.:)

how do you know they dont choose people who arent Kings and Queens? Just because we see a picture of Rania receiving it? Do you know the entire list of people who have received this award?
One group of people doesnt have to be recognized at the expense of another.
Queen Rania actually has received similar awards in Milan and other parts of Italy over the past few years.
Im sure these organizations give out awards after doing their homework.
Maybe you should do some research and find out if they only give out awards to royals.
No offence, but just because you happen to know people who, in your view, do a lot more than Rania doesnt mean the entire world, or even the mayor of Milan is going to know about them. Nor is it necessary that they receive every award under the sun.

MILAN: ALBERTINI, RANIA OF JORDAN AN EXAMPLE OF COURAGE
(AGI) - Milan, Italy, Sept 3 - Queen Rania of Jordan is an example of courage for everyone. Thus argued the Mayor of Milan, Gabriele Albertini, who this morning conferred honorary citizenship on her, speaking of her example of dynamism and courage as witness to how many prejudices can be fought and overcome with arms and dialogue and peace, values that Milan shares and wants to contribute to spreading in terms of diversity and freedom of speech." Albertini recalled his previous meetings with her as being always about intercultural dialogue and women's emancipation. personally I think it is good that famous people give a good example and I noticed that some of famous people use the media craze about them and turned it to some thing positive through turned the media attention on important cases and in the same time the human organization get a big benefits , and I know that some of those famous people do it just for show , to let every one talk about how they are great and how they an angels etc ... but it does not bother me if there show will help people in need and I will not be sad if they take awards for there humanitarian works ( any way it is just my opinion ) :)

Congratulations to Rania on her new awards, she's certainly earned them.

Is she shopping? And who is that with her??:)

If she's the same woman, I believe she is a friend of Queen Rania's who helps her with her shopping; perhaps acts as a kind of fashion consultant. QR has been seen before with a young woman, about her age, visiting various stores with her.

Does QR ever talk about friends from the old days? I wonder if she keeps up with any of them. She is close with her family but she was said to have a number of friends from school and I've seen photos before she became Queen where she and KA were hosting friends to dinner--and KA was the chef. He actually does look like he enjoys cooking, seriously! In one shot, he was whipping up a fairly elaborate looking Japanese meal for about 8 of their friends at their home. It was kind of refreshing to see him in such a casual circumstance, clearly enjoying what he was doing and being among friends.

Hello's on top of the latest news as always
Here's an article on Rania's visit to Milan last Saturday:

Rania of Jordan made honorary citizen of Milan

Queen Rania of Jordan has been made an honorary citizen of Italy's fashion capital, but she didn't earn the accolade because of her famed style sense.
Milan's mayor, Gabriel Albertini, gave the philanthropic royal the title in recognition of her work to promote peace and human rights. The mother-of-four, who has long laboured for children's causes, said she was "very proud" to receive the honour.
