Also you have to remember is that now she has A LOT more money to spend on clothes and the best hair and make-up.  When she was a princess their income was limited unlike now.
I am really shocked by those two sentences. For me, there is not different between lavish life-style of Rania and Saddam, while people in their country live in enormous poverty.

I am really sorry that you feel that way (unlimited income). According to UN some women in Jordan cannot attend school because they cannot pay $4 tuition fees.

Your statement made me really sad, it feels like true values are disappearing.

Asma2--I agree that it's really disapointing that Rania spends money on clothess when there is such poverty in her county. You know I really admire the Swedish royal family for recycling their gowns and they are a much richer country than Jordan. I think she would just be as beautiful and effective as a queen if she spent less money on her wardrobe.

I was just thinking the other day when she visited some poor people in Jordan and thought the amount of money her outfit costs could feed a needy family in Jordan for several months.

I think that Rania is really caught up with being so glamorous--she feels, "it's a breath of fresh air" a quote from todays Hello Magazine where she got voted most glamorus woman of 03. See below.

22 DECEMBER 2003
The results are in and we've counted the ballots! Now we can reveal the winners of the HELLO! magazine reader survey to find 2003's Most Elegant Woman. Casting your minds back over a whole year's worth of stylish images, you narrowed down the original 32 candidates to the ten who took place in the final, and then the winner and runners-up.
Queen Rania of Jordan is the overall winner, with a convincing 32.3% of the votes. Next comes Wales’ own Hollywood leading lady, and close behind her in third place, fellow Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, followed by Friends star and girl-next-door beauty Jennifer Aniston.
Here we take a look at the individual styles of the winner and the three runners-up.

Rania of Jordan
“I am flattered – this was a very pleasant surprise,” said Queen Rania on hearing she’d been elected HELLO!’s Most Elegant Woman of 2003. “It’s always rewarding to receive acknowledgment along the way. It was certainly a breath of fresh air,” added the hard-working mother-of-three.
For allure and glamour, there are few other royal ladies who can quite match 33-year-old Rania. She never fails to look exquisite, whether she's attending a state banquet in traditional Arab costume or hosting her son's eighth birthday party in a pair of well-cut, trendy jeans.
Of course it helps that she has a perfect heart-shaped face and huge, expressive eyes. She also keeps herself in great shape by jogging most days. But it's more than just her looks: tireless charity worker Rania also projects serenity and confidence, and carries off a fusion of Arab and Western style with enviable poise.
Favourite designers include Elie Saab and Giorgio Armani, who when opening an exhibition of his work in London recently had this to say about her: “Rania's beautiful, she has the body of a model and holds herself like the queen she is – what more could you want?”.

I support Asma2's & Nicole's opinions about QR's crazy spending. While she is pretty with no doubt, I think she does not have a sense of her surroundings. Besides, I guess she defines herself more through her looks than her brain & personality (insercurity feelings i guess). Her looks are a survivol issue for her, i believe this might be true especially if the rumors abouy her being sick are real

i read (AM NOT SURE, i repeat AM NOT SURE) that she has tyroid problem and is diabetics and that children are diabetics too and there are rumors that KA may be taking another wife, so, maybe..she is also protecting her household by showing to her husband how glamourous could she be and he would be a loser if he thinks of marrying another woman. Also do not forget she is targetting Western media. So, maybe she is showing to her husband that she is at ease in all places!!??

She is strategizing :P Good for her..

I have no comments on her statements. I do not think they would be appropriate for this site. This is not her first time that she just overshot something. I remember the second Arab women summit when she insulted Jordanian people. Because it was international scandal (Arab women summit was attended by 18 Arab countries) royal courthouse had to made statement and try to downplay the situation, saying that she did not meant to…..

I hope that Jordanian people will find the recourses and overthrown this corruptive leadership and stop this notorious stealing of money from Jordanian people, for what as Rania would put was awarded.

on the topic of cosmetic surgery, i think its fine for burn victims and others who need it because of a medical condition but for noor and rania? come on. they were beautiful to begin with...i think all this surgery, botox, whatever it is is making them look worse...people look best when their beauty is effortless (or looks effortless)...anyway, just my opinion...

hey asma, if you don't mind me asking, what happened at the 2nd arab women summit?

Hi Madonna23,

I found for you an article that may be helpful to you. I remember read a lot about it in Lebanon press (only country in that region with relatively free press) but there was not report in Jordan press what so ever.

Regards,

Asma2

Hardly an embarassment. She was trying to do something good and should be applauded.

Dear almahboubah,

I did not say anything about her not trying to something good. If you are familiar with the Arab culture than you know the position of the Palestinian in the Arab world. Jordanian felt insulted by her remarks, and there was no any further explanation or apology from her. However, the Jordanian authority tried to be quiet to this subject.

However, we all can different opinion. And maybe you would agree with the absolute power that Jordanian royal have in Jordan, insulting own people or lavish live style of Rania.

This is very interesting debate - although it seemed to be gone rather far from the original topic's subtitle - personally I found it more substancial now. The fact that even the most superficial issues raised about HRH Q Rania on this Forum turn into very serious debate on political, social or cultural issues - does make one think about it. Since I am not wll informed on the subject I won't make any further remarks apart from wishing to all of you (who celebrate these holidays) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Peace, prosperity, harmony, health and love. :)

I realized that I picked wrong time for that heavy subject and for some reason; I took attention from Ranias plastic surgery. Sorry about that and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too.

No need ot apologize Asma2, as I said, I am glad that you raised that issue - it is certanly much more substantial than Q. Rania's plastic surgeries. It is the time of the year for love, family gathering and peace. That doesn't mean that you did anything out of line - on the contrary. The thought of all those people who are not blessed with fortune to spend their free time by chatting about Royalties, leads me to think that at least we can do is what you did - try to debate on some less superficial issues. Who knows, on a less naive side, some of PR people from Royal Houses worldwide just might read some of these 'populistic remarks' - which may lead to some thinking process...let's hope...:)
