Article from the event, with a brand new award to look forward to:

Queen Rania announces Distinguished Principals Award

AQABA - Her Majesty Queen Rania on Thursday announced the launch of Queen Rania Al Abdullah Award for Distinguished Principals, which will start early next year.

"The award is dedicated for school principals who are real educators: those who make sure that each teacher performs his/her duty Principals are the eyes of teachers who encourage and inspire them," the Queen said at a ceremony to honour winners of the Queen Rania Award for Distinguished Teachers held in this Red Sea port city.

In her remarks, Queen Rania said there are many distinguished teachers in Jordan but there are others in the country's schools who overlook the element of actual education in the teaching process.

There are teachers who allow themselves to exercise corporal punishment, making children pay for their own failure to guide, educate or correct the behaviour of their students, Her Majesty said. Jordan Times

follow-up to Rania's speech at the awards

Physical punishment red line - Queen

AMMAN - Her Majesty Queen Rania on Monday stressed that violence against schoolchildren in the Kingdom is a "red line" that cannot be tolerated or accepted.

The Queen's remarks were posted on Ammonnews.net, a local electronic newspaper. They were made in reaction to a November 30 item by the e-paper that included interviews with schoolteachers commenting on reasons that prompted Queen Rania in a speech she made a few days earlier to address the issue of physical punishment at schools.

The Queen said she was following up on the article and ensuing debate and decided to respond to some comments "because while we encourage open and frank dialogues, the issue of schoolchildren beatings is a red line and is unacceptable under any circumstances".

. . . . The Queen was reacting to some entries by readers who called for applying severe disciplinary measures against school students that included beating and other forms of punishments.

"Since when have beatings at school become acceptable whether mild or severe?" the Queen wrote. Jordan Times

Queen Rania Award bringing dignity back to teaching

AQABA - Educators across the Kingdom said they have witnessed a new level of respect since the inception of the Queen Rania Award for Excellence in Education four years ago.
Previous and potential award winners said they have felt inspired since the awards establishment, adding that the distinction has brought prestige back to the teaching profession.
I am no longer an invisible person. I have a record of achievements and am striving to become a better educator, Muawiah Halasa, a 2006 award winner told The Jordan Times.
On the sidelines of a conference organised by the Association of Queen Rania Al Abdullah for Excellence in Education, he said that the award became an incentive for him to become more creative in his teaching methods.

Can't believe a year has passed already.
Thanks for the pictures.
I've simplified the name of the thread as the Awards for Distinguished Teacher and Principal fall under the umbrella of the Queen Rania Award for Excellence in Education.

She's always had a kind of bony wrists and palms. I agree thinness in this case isn't pretty...
