Omani King Qaboos bin Said al-Said arrived on Tuesday morning in Tehran; where he met with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He was welcomed by the president at the presidential office. The two leaders discussed developing bilateral relations, expanding cooperation in different fields, as well as exchanging points of views towards a number of regional and international issues.
Oman and Iran signed a security agreement on Wednesday, as well as holding talks for a gas swap deal which would see Oman supplying Iran with gas. Iran’s Oil Minister Gholam-Hossein Nozari said “It is possible that Oman wants to provide its natural gas needs from Iran’s northern neighbors. In this case, Iran and Oman can swap natural gas.” Qaboos has a high ranking delegation.
This is the first visit in 35 years to be made by an Omani King to Iran. Sultan Qaboos is the first foreign ruler to visit Iran since Ahmadinejad’s disputed June 12 re-election. Qaboos had been scheduled to visit Tehran on June 28, but postponed the trip amid unrest following the polls.
Oman is a close ally to Britian and the United States, but also has a strong relation with Iran.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei began a three day statevisit to Kuwait on April 13 which he held talks with Emir of Kuwait. The leaders underlined the warm and friendly relations between the two countries and expressed commitment to further promote bilateral ties.
After the meeting, the Emir hosted banquet in honour of the monarch’s visit.
On April 16, His Majesty visited Oman. Arriving at the Al-Alam Guest Palace for an official welcoming ceremony. His Majesty was escorted by horse guards and later received a royal salute. The Brunei national anthem was played followed by the firing of 21 canon shots to honour His Majesty’s arrival.
His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and Sultan of Brunei attended an official meeting which both rulers discussed ways to improve relations and strengthen bilateral ties in a number of areas.
After the meeting a dinner banquet was hosted in honor of the visiting guest.

Website designer Hamoud Mohd Alazri said about the award “We are very delighted to achieve this distinction in our maiden attempt and would like to dedicate this award to His Majesty in earnest sincerity,”
The winner website is ..:: His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said ::.., and it is in its maiden year now, won the special appreciation award and the Gold Award in the personal websites category.The site can be accessed in seven different languages — Arabic, English, Hindi, Korean, Portuguese, Farsi and French. The sites contents are organised in sections of birth, education, interests, achievements, speeches, photo gallery, national songs in a simple navigable structure.
The fourth Oman Web Awards is a member of the Pan Arab Web Awards Committee which oversees and awards the best websites in the Arab region.

Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said on Saturday met with President Michel Suleiman of Lebanon, who is on a two-day official visit to Oman. The two leaders held talks which discussed ties between their countries and bilateral relations and ways to improve them in all aspects.
The two leaders hoped Suleiman’s visit to Oman would lead to more “cooperation, coordination and activation of bilateral agreements and finding ways to encourage mutual investments,” according to NNA.
After the half hour meeting, President Suleiman met with members of the Lebanese community in Oman.

After an unexpected visit to Baghdad on 10 February, President Nicholas Sarkozy of France visited the Gulf States of Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait to confer with the rulers of those countries on both military and civilian issues. This visit follows visits by the President in 2008 to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE, which also led to agreemements, most significantly an agreement for France to set up a military base in the UAE and also a deal for development of nuclear energy.
During the most recent trip, President Sarkozy signed a declaration about nuclear energy and an agreement for a French military base in Bahrain (similar to last year’s agreements with the UAE), and an agreement on health care in Oman.
This series of trips and agreements is likely to make France one of the most significant players, if not the most significant, in the Middle East in the early 21st century.
