Princess Laurentien Writes Children’s Book

  Princess Laurentien is writing a childrens book. According to Querido the intention is to publish a collection of children’s books. Pieter van Vollenhoven presents “Gelders Newsphoto” Award

On March 18th, Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven presented the ‘Gelders Newsphoto 2008′ award at the Provinical House in Arnhem. The Professor chairs the jury which decides on the winner. Beatrix opens Keukenhof Flower Exhibition

Queen Beatrix yesterday opened the 60th edition of the International Flower Exhibition Keukenhof in Lisse. The Queen officially opened the event by baptising the new Spring Garden tulip. Parents of Máxima Are Not Moving To Huis ten Bosch Palace

Two weeks ago it became clear that the royal family had asked the city counsil of The Hague for permission to change the destination plan of the estate of Huis ten Bosch Palace, so that three extra guest houses could be built. The Prince of Orange Speaks at 5th World Water Forum

The Prince of Orange has spoken at the 5th World Water Forum. The forum began on Monday, March 16th, when a summit meeting for heads of state was held at Istanbul’s Ciragan Palace. The Forum is held every three years, and this year’s key themes are sanitation, climate change and increasing demand for water. Renovated Ministry of Finance Receives Queen Beatrix

Queen Beatrix and ‘The Girls of Verkade’

Queen Beatrix has opened the Verkande Pavillion at the museum in Zaandam. Her Majesty was welcomed by three ‘girls of Verkade’, who according to the old commercials of Verkade, make all the chocolate. Princess Laurentien Knows that “It Begins with Reading”

As patron for literacy, Princess Laurentien yesterday attended the launch of a new starters package called “It Begins with Reading”, to promote the importance of reading in children even from an early age. Willem-Alexander and Máxima Help End Dutch International Polar Year

The Prince of Orange and Princess Máxima yesterday attended the final event of the fourth International Polar Year in the Netherlands. The pair attended the ‘Pool Experience 2009′ event in Middelburg. The event was showcasing life in the polar regions and Dutch polar research. Queen’s Day Will Cost 645.000 Euros

The mayor and aldermen of the city of Apeldoorn announced that the total costs of Queen’s Day (Koninginnedag) that will be celebrated in Apeldoorn this year, will be 645.000 euros. Of this amount 377.000 euros will be used for the festivities themselves and for communication and PR around the visit of the royal family to Apeldoorn. The Dutch government refuses to say anything about a possible double nationality of Queen Beatrix. Prince Pieter-Christiaan Injured during Ski Trip

Prince Pieter-Christiaan, the 36-year-old nephew of Queen Beatrix, injured himself during a skiing holiday in Seefeld, Austria, earlier this week. The Prince fell while skiing, and injured his ribs. He was flown via helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck for treatment. Pieter-Christiaan returned to Holland on Tuesday to recover from his injuries.

Pieter van Vollenhoven: Meter Caused Plane Crash

Prof. Mr. Pieter van Vollenhoven, bother-in-law of Dutch queen Beatrix, today announced that a faulty altitude meter probably is the cause of the crash of an airplane of Turkish Airways near Schiphol Airport one week ago. Nine people, including the three pilots, were killed when the Boeing 737-800 ploughed into a muddy field last Wednesday. Around 80 people got wounded, 28 of which are still in the hospital. Prince of Orange Visits Military Rehabilitation Center

The prince of Orange visited the military rehabilitation center (MRC) in Doorn. The prince spoke with soldiers that are rehabilitating, most of them got wounded in Afghanistan. After these talks he opened a new wing of the rehabilitation center.
