Emperor Akihito and King Albert II Cancel Engagements

Both Emperor Akihito of Japan and King Albert II of the Belgians have fallen sick and had to cancel some engagements. Yesterday the Imperial Household Agency announced that the emperor’s upcoming engagements have been cancelled for the entire week. Princess Astrid Takes Over Aunt’s Charity

Earlier this month, Queen Fabiola of the Belgians gave up her patronage of the the ‘Damiaanactie’ as her health prevents her from getting actually involved with the cause. The Royal Palace has announced that Queen Fabiola is no longer patron of the “Damiaanactie”, a charity which organises a sales action (usually of pens) once a year to collect money for buying leprosy and TBC medication for people suffering from these diseases in the Third World. After several death threats against Queen Fabiola in the last week, today the newspaper La Dernière Heure reports that last night another letter was found at the post sorting center in Anderlecht (Brussels).
