Queen Margrethe of Denmark and Prince Henrik started their annual summer cruise on the royal yacht ‘Dannebrog’ with a visit to Nyborg on the island of Funen.

Welcomed by a crowd of children waving Danish flags and beautiful weather, the Queen and Prince Henrik carried out a number of engagements, starting with a crriage ride to the Town Hall, where they were officially welcomed by Mayor Jørn Terndrup and his wife.

They then walked the short distance to Nyborg Castle, built in 1193, where children dressed in historical costume danced and fenced and they opened the Arms Historical Society Anniversary Exhibition.

After that, it was time for an official lunch with the City Council in the Hotel Nyborg Strand and a programme of separate events for the afternoon. The couple joined together again for the inspection of the Queen’s bastion.
