Philippe and Mathilde Celebrate Twenty Years of Marriage

Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde celebrated today, December 4, their 20th wedding anniversary.
The then Crown Prince Philippe announced his engagement to Mathilde d’Udekem d’Acoz on September 10, 1999.
The couple married on December 4 in both civil and religious ceremonies. The civil ceremony was held at Brussels Town Hall followed by the religious ceremony the Cathedral of St Michel and St Gudule at the presence of 1200 guests. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Royal Palace in Brussels and in the evening the celebration continued at the Chateau of Laeken.
Queen Mathilde wore a bespoked silk crepe full length coat dress with a tall collar and long sleeves by Edouard Vermeulen from the Natan fashion house. The bridal gown was paired with a 5 metre lace veil loaned by her mother-in-law Queen Paola who also loaned to Mathilde the Queen Elisabeth Bandeau Tiara.
King Philippe and Queen Mathilde have four children, Princess Elisabeth, 18, Prince Gabriel, 16, Prince Emmanuel, 14, and Princess Eléonore, 11.
For this special occasion the Royal Palace has released two new photos of the Royal Couple taken in the grounds of Chateau de Laeken.
