Prinsjesdag 2019

The Dutch Royal Family has celebrated today, Tuesday September 17, the official opening of the parliament, Prinsjesdag.
King Willem-Alexander was joined by his wife, Queen Máxima, his brother Prince Constantijn and his sister-in-law, Princess Laurentien. The Dutch Royals left Noordeinde Palace at around 13:00 heading to the Knight’s Hall in the Glass Carriage through the streets of The Hague.
Princess Beatrix saw the procession of the carriages from the window of the Royal Cabinet.
The King started his speech remembering the 75th anniversary of the Operation Market Garden, a military operation fought in the Netherlands from 17 to 25 September 1944 during the World War II, adding that: “75 years later, freedom, democracy and a strong rule of law seem natural values. But whoever looks at the world realizes how special it is to live in a country where people can feel safe.”
Talking about the economy he said that: “a strong economy is needed to continue building a strong Netherlands together”.
King Willem-Alexander also talked about the Dutch government saying that: “Government services must be much higher on the agenda” and that “An important question is how the Dutch economy can continue to grow sustainably in twenty or thirty years. To this end, the government will present a broad-based growth agenda for this year and, early next year, a set-up for an investment fund”.
About the migrants the King stated that: “The number of migrants coming to Europe has fallen sharply compared to 2015. But the continuing pressure on the European external borders, the horrible fate of many migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea and the lack of mutual solidarity between the EU Member States require new steps. Every country must do its part. The Netherlands always receives refugees, the people who really need our help, and offers them the opportunity to participate, with all the rights and obligations that go with it”.
At around 14:00, the Dutch Royal Family left the Ridderzaal heading back to the Noordeinde Palace where the traditional balcony appearance took place.
Queen Maxima wore a ruby woolen crepe floor length gown with a shiny stones cape from the Dutch designer Jan Taminiau. It was paired with a matching velvet pillbox hat from the British designer Philip Treacy.
Princess Laurentien wore a pink pastel dress with a metallic voile with a glitter sequins cape. It was paired with a fascinator with feathers and flowers.
