Dutch King and Queen Visit the Betuwe Region

Yesterday, Wednesday May 29, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander adn Queen Maxima paid a visit to the Betuwe Region in the province of Gelderland.
The visit started at the Town Hall of Opheusden where the Royal Couple was received by Mr. JCGM Berends, the King’s Commissioner for the province of Gelderland.
Afterwards the King and the Queen visited the Tree Center Opheusden (TCO), a trade association of avenue tree growers. During the visit the Royal Couple was informed about the innovations in the field of grafting, growing, harvesting and combating tree diseases.
Then the King and the Queen moved to the municipality of Tiel where they visited the Logistic Hotspot Rivierenland, fifth in the ranking of the best logistics hotspots in the Netherlands. The King and the Queen met with employees, representatives of the Logistics Hotspot Rivierenland and were informed about the work of the company in the field of modernization and sustainability through efficient transhipment and recycling of products.
Then, in the municipality of West Betuwe, the Royal Couple paid a visit to FruitMasters, the largest fruit cooperative in the Netherlands.
This cooperative has more than four hundred affiliated fruit growers is responsible for selling the fruit at home and abroad. The King and the Queen were informed about the initiatives in the field of circular fruit growing, labor migration and vocational education and also witnessed the first circular packaging of apples.
The Regional visit ended at the Town Hall of the municipality of Culemborg where the Royal Couple met with young people and counselors from the municipality to discuss about youth care, youth issues. Then the King and the Queen attended a music performance held by students from the two local secondary schools.
