Dutch Working Visit to the German Federal States of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg: Days One-Two
Yesterday, Monday May 20, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima started a three-day working visit to the German Federal States of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg.
Upon thei arrival the King and the Queen were welcomed by Manuela Schwesig, Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and her husband Stefan Schwesig at the State Chancellery in Schwerin, the capital.
After the welcoming ceremony the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple, inside the palace, had a meeting and the guestbook was signed.
At lunchtime the Prime MInister hosted a lunch at the Schwerin Castle.
In his speech the King stated that Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Netherlands “are connected for many centuries” and added that “We recognize something in each other: entrepreneurial spirit, the will to cooperate. That recognition makes our band so strong”.
In the afternoon the KIng and the Queen paid a visit to the Leibnitz Institute for Baltic Sea Research (IOW). Founded in 1992, the IOW is an independent research institution specializing in interdisciplinary study of coastal oceans and the pollution of the coast and sea by macro and microplastic. During the visit the Royal Couple met with young scientists to talk about their researches.
In the evening took place a dinner held at the Kurhaus in Warnemünde, at the presence, among the others, of the Dutch trade mission.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima started the second day of the visit, on May 21, by visiting MV Werften, a shipbuilding company that constructs cruise ship. The Royal Couple toured the 850,000 square meter site and met with various employees to talk about the construction progress of a cruise ship. The King and the Queen also attended a symposium with Dutch and German companies.
Then the Royal Couple visited the “Die Scheune” in Bollewick, the
Germany’s largest field stone barn. The cow barn has been converted into a cultural and market center.
In the afternoon the King and the Queen paid a visit to an agricultural farm in Nauen along with Dietmar Woidke, Prime Minister of Brandenburg. Topics of the visit were the income, price pressure, problems of succession and EU agricultural policy.
Afterwards the Royal Couple visited the mission command of the German Armed Forces in Schwielowsee.
In the evening took place a dinner held at the Historische Saftfabrik Werder and focused on the changing countryside.
