British Royals at Easter Service on Queen’s Birthday

On April 21, the Queen, who was also celebrating her ninety-third birthday that same day, was joined by members of her immediate family at the annual Easter Sunday service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Those who also attended the service were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duke of Sussex, the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their two children Lady Louise and Viscount Severn, the Duke of York and his daughter Princess Beatrice, the Princess Royal, Peter and Autumn Phillips and Zara and Mike Tindall.

Easter this year coincided with the Queen’s ninety-third birthday, which was celebrated as the Band of the Irish Guards performed a rendition of “Happy Birthday” at Buckingham Palace. Crowds outside Windsor Castle also sang Happy Birthday to the Queen as she walked into the church. Her official birthday celebrations will take place in June as part of the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The then Princess Elizabeth of York was born on 21 April 1926 at her parent’s London residence, 17 Bruton Street in Mayfair. She was named Elizabeth Alexandra Mary and was christened on 29 May at Buckingham Palace’s private chapel. Her sister, Princess Margaret, was born in 1930 (she passed away in 2002). During the war, the two princesses moved to Windsor Castle and Princess Elizabeth was appointed as colonel of the Grenadier Guards in 1942.

In November 1947, she married Philip Mountbatten (previously Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark) and a year later they had their first child, Prince Charles, who was followed by Princess Anne in 1950, Prince Andrew in 1960 and Prince Edward in 1964. Elizabeth was crowned in 1953 following her father’s death the previous year and is arguably the most famous monarch in the world and is still performing a countless number of royal engagements.
