On April 18, Princess Eugenie accompanied her grandmother, the Queen, to the annual Maundy Thursday service at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. The Queen has been attending since the age of eight.

Children from the nearby Holy Family Catholic Primary School in Berkshire presented the Queen and Princess Eugenie with flowers as they left the service before the Queen presented 93 pensioners with commemorative Maundy birthday coins for their services within the church.

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter and is celebrated by Christians around the world in the lead up to Easter weekend. Maundy Thursday always comes before Good Friday and is also known as Holy Thursday. Maundy Thursday is an ancient celebration, originating from Christ’s commandment after washing the disciples’ feet.
