Last Day in Portugal for Philippe and Mathilde

Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde spent the third and last day of their Portuguese state visit in Porto.

Upon their arrival the King and the Queen where officially welcomed at the Porto City Hall by the mayor of the city, Rui Moreira. The Royal Couple met with the main authorities of the city, had a provate conversation with the mayor and signed the book of honour.

Afterwards the King and the Queen paid a visit to the Museum Serralves, a space dedicated to contemporary art that shows collection of Portuguese and international contemporary art.  King Philippe and Queen Mathilde toured the museum, visited the exhibition of Belgian painters Luc Tuymans and Marcel Broodthaers and then they signed the book of honour.

At lunch time the Royal Couple attended a business lunch hosted by the mayor of Porto and held at the Palacio da Bolsa. The President of the Republic was present as well.

In early afternoon the King and the Queen paid a visit to the São Francisco Church, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Then the Royal Couple went to the University of Porto where they visited the UPTEC – Science and Technology Park. The executive director of UPTEC presented five startups, an example of more than 500 business projects already supported by the Science and Technology Park of the University.

After the King and the Queen attended at the closing of two seminaries, the first one was titled “Ocean Science for a sustainable blue economy” and was organized by the Faculty of Engineering; the second one wa titled “Perspective on the digital digital startup ecosystem”, organized by the Export Agency of Wallonia (AWEX).
