Dutch King and Queen Host Lunch for German President

Today, Tuesday May 15, King Willem-Alexander received the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife Elke Büdenbender who are currently on a two-day official visit to the Netherlands.

The President and First Lady were officially welcomed with a welcoming ceremony held in the courtyard of the Palace Noordeinde in The Hague. The King and the President inspected a guard of honour and the national anthems were played.

Inside the palace took place a private audience and then the King and the President posed for the official photograph. The King in his speech expressed his pleasure for the visit of the President and stressed the special bond that exists between the Netherlands and Germany.

King Willem-Alexander also praised Germany as a country “so deeply responsible for the welfare of the international community” and a “reliable ally”.
