Queen Máxima Launches National Money Week

This morning, Monday March 12, Queen Máxima attended the launch of the eighth edition of National Money Week and the seventh edition of the international Global Money Week 2018.

The event took place at the theater De Koninklijke Schouwburg in The Hague in the presence of Arie Slob, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education and Media and the students of the elementary school De Fontein.

The motto of this year’s edition is “When are you rich?”. During this week, about 5,500 lectures and workshops in primary schools through Netherlands will take place. The purpose of the lectures is to teach young students about spending limits, the importance of saving and foresight, the budgeting, the assess financial risks and make long-term planning.

Money Week 2018 started today and will last till March 16. It is an initiative of Platform Wiser Money Matters, organized by the Ministry of Finance. Since 2010, Queen Máxima is Honorary Chairman of the Platform Wiser Money Matters.

In early afternoon the Queen moved to Amsterdam where, as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, gave a speech at the symposium “Power of Partnerships: making finance work for women entrepreneurs”. The symposium took place at the KIT Royal Tropical Institute and was organized by the Dutch Development Bank (FMO), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Better Future, a global leadership consultancy and KIT Royal Tropical Institute.

The international symposium was focused on the quality and accessibility of financial products and services for female entrepreneurs.

In her speech the Queen stressed the importance to increase women’s use of financial services because it leads “to greater spending on health, education, nutritious food, and much more, and on themselves, which is incredible empowerment”.

Queen Máxima also said that “there are far fewer women than men with formal accounts”.
