Queen Máxima Opens the Virtual Oncode Institute

This morning, Monday February 5, Queen Máxima of The Netherlands was present at the launch of the Virtual Oncode Institute, a new virtual research center for cancer. The event took place at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam in the presence of funders, partners, researchers and guests.

The Virtual Oncode Institute is an independent institute that unites The Netherlands’ most outstanding scientists specialized in the field of fundamental oncological research. Almost 600 researchers from nine Dutch institutes such as the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, the Princess Máxima Center and the Erasmus MC will collaborate in the new institute.

The Institute “focuses on three pillars: excellent research, intensive collaboration and the use of scientific knowledge for patients and aims to translate basic insights about cancer into better and more affordable care as quickly and efficiently as possible”.

In the coming five years, the Dutch Cancer Society along with the Ministries of Economic Affairs and Climate, Education Culture and Science and Public Health, Welfare and Sport will invest a total of 125 million euros in the Institute.
