The Duke of Cambridge presented awards to the unsung heroes of the British community on Monday night during the Pride of Britain Awards at the Grosvenor Hotel in London.

He said that “we should all take a moment to understand and appreciate all emergency services personnel and what they achieve in their communities” as he presented the Emergency Services Award to the Grenfell Firefighters in recognition of their bravery and dedication during the June 14 inferno that devastated Kensington’s Grenfell Tower and left at least 80 of its residents dead.

Prince William – who was joined at the event by Prime Minister Theresa May, opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn, and a host of celebrities – also presented two Special Recognition Awards: one to the Grenfell Community, for their resilience and “hard work and community spirit” in the aftermath of the disaster – which William said was “inspiring” to witness, and to medical staff from Manchester who assisted victims of the Manchester Arena bombing in May.

The Duke said that “the courage and the spirit that Manchester showed is a huge example to all of us.”
