Queen Sonja Suffering Back Pain, Cancels Engagements

A spokesperson for the Norwegian Royal Court has confirmed that due to back pain, Queen Sonja has been forced to cancel her two engagements in Trondheim on Tuesday.

“This is because the Queen has been hurt and therefore has to set aside her program tomorrow. The Crown Princess steps in for the Queen,” Sven G. Gjeruldsen said to Norwegian media on Monday afternoon. He reiterated there was no cause for concern for the 80-year-old Queen’s health.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit will now open the Queen’s Yes exhibition at Erkebispegården; and then still join King Harald V and Crown Prince Haakon at Nidaros Cathedral to mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

Whether Queen Sonja will cancel further engagements due to her injury has yet to be announced.
