Security Incidents At Palaces in London, Jeddah
There were security incidents at two seperate royal palaces on Saturday: in London, a woman was arrested while trying to scale the front gates of Buckingham Palace; while in Jeddah, a man was shot dead after opening fire at royal guards outside the Al-Salam Palace.
In London, Metropolitan Police were quick to arrest the woman late Saturday afternoon, detaining her on “suspicion of trespass”, in front of a moderate crowd of tourists who were on hand to capture the incident on film. She did not breach palace grounds.
In Jeddah, western Saudi Arabia, two members of the Saudi Royal Guard were killed and three others injured when a man in his late 20s opened fire at them outside the western gate of Al-Salam Palace on Saturday afternoon. He was then shot dead by other members of the Guard.
Motives for each incident have not been released, with investigations still ongoing in Saudi Arabia.
Neither Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom nor Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz were in residence at their respective palaces at the time.
