Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has issued a royal decree that allows females to hold a driver license effective from June 2018.

The King also ordered the formation of a governmental committee to implement the provisions of traffic regulations, including the issuance of driving licenses for both men and women equally.

The monarch’s decision, which comes just few days after the Kingdom celebrated its National Day, is considered as a great step towards the Saudi Vision 2030 launched by his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It was widely welcomed both internationally and from local communities, especially women’s rights activists in the Kingdom.
