Princess Alexandra of Kent as on hand Friday for the official opening of the new theatre and oncology building at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS in Oswestry, Shropshire.

The Princess was given a tour of the new facility, which cost £15.1 million to fit-out, meeting with staff who will work there. She also presented the first  Dame Agnes Hunt Nursing Medal to Sister Glenna Hardy.

Afterwards, it was out into the hospital’s gardens where Princess Alexandra unveiled a peacock sculpture made of obsolete surgical instruments created by The British Ironwork Centre. The sculpture was designed in memory of Percy the Peacock, “a peacock who resided in the hospital grounds for over 20 years” before he died this past January.
