The Duchess of Cambridge officially opened the Victoria and Albert Museum’s new Exhibition Road Quarter today, and was given a tour of the “new public areas and gallery space” that make up the Quarter.

She chose an outfit that is a little out of her usual fashion repertoire, a black and white tweed Gucci dress with red trim around the seams and gold buttons on the four pockets. A pair of black pumps and a red suede clutch, along with pearl drop earrings, completed the look.

The Quarter is the museum’s “largest architectural project” in a century and is credited to architect Amanda Levete. It has been designed to connect the V&A with neighbouring museums.

During her visit, Catherine was shown the new Sackler Courtyard, the first porcelain tiled public courtyard in the world, where unveiled a commemorative etching into the building’s stone facade. She also toured the Sainsbury Gallery and attended a reception in Blavatnik Hall.
