In the drizzling rain, King Harald V inspected the Hans Majestet Kongens Garde at their Oslo barracks, Huseby Leir, on Friday. He was accompanied by Crown Prince Haakon.

The King went on to present annual awards to two guards. The Guard’s Watch, given to the ‘best guard of the year’, was awarded to Leading Private Siri Karine Borge Thøgersen, who is the first female to receive the honour since its inception in 1934. Lieutenant Even Husby was awarded the Leif Schanache honour, a sabre.

HMKG is the infantry battalion of the Norwegian Army in charge of the defence of Oslo, as well as the guarding the royal residences.
