King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands hosted on Tuesday evening a gala dinner at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam for the diplomatic corps.

The King and Queen – who wore the Württemberg Ornate Pearl Tiara with her pale gold gown – were photographed arriving to the Palace ahead of the dinner, while Princess Beatrix, Princess Margriet and Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven were also seen upon departure.

During the gala, King Willem-Alexander delivered a speech in which he pressed the importance of good diplomatic relations around the world, and the need for countries to not isolate themselves from others.

“Where there is division, you promote mutual understanding. Where interests diverge, you try to find common ground. Where there are borders, you make connections. And when people start losing hope, you keep seeking solutions. The world cannot do without you!” he said of the diplomatic corps, the “importance of your work is growing in a time of increasing international tensions and uncertainty”.
