Buckingham Palace Garden Party Holds Minute’s Silence For Manchester Victims

During the second garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth and members of the Royal Family have observed a minute’s silence in memory of the 22 people killed in Monday night’s terrorist attack at Manchester Arena.

The Queen was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, and Princess Eugenie of York for the garden party, which hosted 8,000 people from across Britain in the Palace gardens.

Following the minute’s silence, the British national anthem was played before the royal family began circulating through the guests.

In tribute to the late Sir Roger Moore, whose death at age 89 was announced earlier on Tuesday, the Band of the Coldstream Guards played the theme song from the James Bond film series.

Excellent ! It was only two weeks ago (on the 10th of May, to be more precise) that I attended the Royal Garden Party at the Elisabeta Palace (the official residence of the Romanian Royal Family in Bucharest, Romania.) In spite of the discouraging weather forecast in the morning, the afternoon was wonderful, the sky was clear and the lawn of the Palace, perfectly walkable. Of the more than 8000 people invited, more than 6000 made it to the Garden Party, the lucky ones being able to meet with and even talk to TTRRHH Crown Princess Margareta, Prince Radu and Princess Maria. It was a remarkable day, like all Romanian Royal Garden Parties in Bucharest since 2010 (the first year this became a constant event in Romania. The ample ceremony follows in principle the routine such events usually have at Bukingham or other Royal Houses.
