As patron, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark officially opened Research Day 2017 on Monday at the Experimentarium in Hellerup.

During her visit to the annual science festival, Mary toured a number of stalls where different aspects of scientific research were on display, including ‘Bobleriet’ where she volunteered to be ‘covered’ in a giant bubble to help demonstrate the forces of soap liquids.

She also was given the chance to try and lift a 500kg Renaul Twizy, an electric car. This was done using a specially crafted lifting hoist, which the Princess required assistance to have enough strength on so the car would lift slightly off the ground (Mary was left dangling from the hoist on her first, solo attempt)!

The Crown Princess also presented the Research Communication Prize for 2017 to Jacob Sherson from Aarhus University who is researching quantum physics.
