The cremation and funeral rites of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand will take place on October 26, a Thai government official has confirmed.

Five days of funeral rites will take place around the cremation date, in accordance with Thai royal tradition. The cremation will take place a little over a year after the late King’s death.

The funeral pyre that will be used in the ceremony has been under construction for several months.

Once the late King has been cremated, the coronation of his son, the current King Maha Vajiralongkorn, will be able to take place.
