Crown Prince Naruhito is currently on a five-day official visit to Malaysia, on behalf of the Japanese government to celebrate sixty years of bilateral relations.

On Friday April 14, the Prince visited the Tugu Negara (National Monument) in Kuala Lumpur and laid a wreath in honour of Malaysia’s fallen soldiers. He also gave a speech during a special lecture at the Universiti Malaya on the relationship between the two countries, and how over the years tens of thousands of Japanese and Malaysian students had studied in the other country.

During his visit to the University, Crown Prince Naruhito was accompanied by its Chancellor, Sultan Nazrin Shah, who is the Sultan of Perak.

Speaking ahead of his trip, the Crown Prince said the visit would “provide an excellent opportunity to promote mutual understanding and friendship” between Japan and Malaysia.
