Hola Panda! Queen Sofia Visits Madrid Zoo Aquarium’s Newest Panda Cub
Queen Sofia of Spain stopped in the Madrid Zoo Aquarium on Wednesday where she saw the zoo’s newest panda cub, Chulina, on her first walk outside of her pagoda habitat.
Chulina is the first female giant panda that had been born at the Zoo. She was born last August and has remained kept inside the panda enclosure’s pagoda away from the public for the first formative months of her life.
The Queen was joined by the Chinese Ambassador to Spain, Lyu Fan, at the zoo. Sofia has been an advocate for the giant panda breeding program at the zoo, which began in the early 1980s after King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia were gifted two giant pandas during a 1978 visit to China.Filed under Spain
