The King and Queen of the Netherlands were going about their regular duties on Wednesday, in The Hague and Amsterdam respectively.

King Willem-Alexander paid a visit to the Dutch Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI), an institute under the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences of which the King is patron. Here he was informed about recent research the NIDI has undertaken into population issues affecting the Netherlands – the main topics of focus being migration, work and retirement and ageing.

Meanwhile, Queen Maxima was visiting the Amsterdam’s Academic Medical Centre, specifically their Department of Psychiatry. The Queen had discussions with psychiatrists working at the centre about new developments in treatment, and what they mean for mental health. She also spoke with patients with OCD and depression who are being treated with deep brain therapy.
