Canada’s Governor-General Begins State Visit to Sweden
Governor-General David Johnston of Canada and his wife Sharon begun their state visit to Sweden on Monday, arriving in Stockholm to a welcome at the Royal Mews by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia before a carriage ride to the Royal Palace.

The King and Queen hosted a lunch for their visitors which was attended by Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia, Princess Madeleine and Christopher O’Neill (on his state visit debut).

In the evening a gala dinner was held in the Karl XI Gallery, where guests were treated to a four course meal consisting of fried scallops with Périgord truffles and cauliflower crème, Atlantic cod with parsnip, caviar and oyster beurre blanc, roasted beef fillets with smoked ox marrow and onions, and chocolate mousse with pomegranate sorbet and iced hibiscus tea.
All three royal ladies wore shades of blue – Queen Silvia in a blue-grey gown with lace overlay and the Nine Prong Tiara, Princess Sofia in a navy blue cap-sleeved gown with the Napoleonic Amethyst Tiara, while Princess Madeleine wore a beaded pale blue Temperley London gown with the Aquamarine Tiara.
