The second last week of January typically means one event for some royals: a trip to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum.

This year’s attendees included King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, and Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway. They have spent varying amounts of time the past few days at the Forum, meeting with other world leaders like the President of China and the new Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Discussions at the WEF follow a range of topics: education, poverty reduction, environmental issues, the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals. The purpose of the Forum is to bring together people who are able to “improve the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas”.
