Actual royalty met pop royalty today as Prince Harry and Rihanna crossed paths at two events while the Prince is in Barbados to help mark the country’s 50th anniversary of independence.

The duo were both guests at the ‘Toast to the Nation’ event hosted by the Prime Minister of Barbados, Freundel Stuart, at St Ann’s Fort. “Hello, it’s very nice to meet you,” Harry said to the singer as they shook hands during the reception.

In the evening, Prince Harry played a special role in the Independence Day concert at Kensington Oval Cricket Ground, unveiling a new monument which has been specially designed to mark the milestone anniversary. As Rihanna watched on, the Prince also delivered a speech praising the work of the country since it gained independence and those who have helped create the nation that Barbados is today.

Earlier in the day, a schedule change allowed Prince Harry the opportunity to revisit the Queen Elizabeth Hospital that he visited on his first visit to Barbados a few years back. He met with patients in the paediatric ward, cooed over little babies and posed for photos with the medical staff.
