The annual Fête du Roi celebrations were held in Belgium today, with members of the royal family attending a Te Deum service at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels.

King Albert, Queen Paola, Princess Astrid, Prince Lorenz and Prince Laurent all attended the service, before greeting well-wishers outside the cathedral. It was then over to the parliament building where they listened to speeches from senior politicians.

As per tradition, the reigning monarch and their spouse do not attend the King’s Feast celebrations to avoid being seen as celebrating themselves. Therefore, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde ceased attending the event in 2013.
