With the Cambridge tour of Canada winding up, the Duke and Duchess today spent their second-last day in the country in Haida Gwaii, an archipelago on British Columbia’s north coast.

Arriving by traditional war canoe, William and Kate were welcomed to the islands by the Haida nation’s hereditary leaders ahead of a cultural performance at the Haida Heritage Centre and Museum. They were given woven scarves trimmed with sea otter fur as welcoming gifts.

Later on in the day it was over to the recently completed Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre, where the couple unveiled a plaque to mark the final stage of development as well as met with staff and patients.

The final engagement on Haida Gwaii was a fishing expedition – William and Kate hopped aboard a fishing boat with young people from the Skidegate Youth Centre, going with them to check on a crab pot.
