A Garden Party At The Palace Park in Oslo

The King and Queen of Norway hosted a garden party for 1,500 guests in the Palace Park this afternoon.

Also attending were Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Prince Sverre Magnus and Princess Astrid. The three senior royal ladies looked lovely in their national costumes as the guests enjoyed musical and cultural performances.

Both King Harald and Queen Sonja gave speeches during the garden party, thanking the guests – who came from across the entire country to represent the entire population – for making the trip and sharing their hopes for the country going forward.

“My greatest hope for Norway is that we are to take care of each other. That we are going to build this country forward – on trust, fellowship and generosity. That we shall know that we – despite all our differences – are one people. That Norway is one,” King Harald said at the conclusion of his speech that spoke of what Norway was and how it has come to be what it is today. He also included the fact that the Norwegian population was made up of individuals from many countries and locations, are different religions and cultures, different sexualities, but regardless of these factors, are all Norwegian.
