Today, Thursday September 1st, the four children of Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde started their first day of the 2016-2017 school year.

Queen Mathilde accompanied the Duchess of Brabant (4th year of secondary education), Prince Gabriel (2nd year secondary) and Princess Eleonore (3rd year primary education) to the Sint-Jans Berchmans College, a Dutch school in Brussels.

In the meantime King Philippe accompanied Prince Emmanuel (6th year of primary education) to the Eureka School in Kessel-Lo.

For the occasion the Belgian Royal Court released a picture and a video of the four children posing in front of the stairs of the Palace. The picture was also published to the new Instagram account of the Belgian Royal Family.

I thought the Duchess of Brabant was the eldest. If so then why is she in 4th year with a younger brother in 6th?

  2. Elizabeth Szeremeta says:

The Duchess is in the 4th year of SECONDARY school (or high school), Prince Gabriel is two years behind her in the 2nd year of SECONDARY school, whereas the two youngest are in elementary school

Thanks for sharing! Enjoy your school year! Why is the eldest daughter a Duchess? Shouldn’t she be a Princess??
