Haakon and Mette-Marit Celebrate Fifteen Years of Marriage
15 years ago today, Oslo was abuzz with the excitement of a royal wedding – that of Crown Prince Haakon and his fiancé Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby.
The couple were married at the Oslo Cathedral by Bishop Gunnar Stålsett in front of dozens of Europe’s royals. Mette-Marit’s son, Marius, was page boy, while Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark served as the groom’s best man.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s wedding dress will go down in history as one of the most simple and elegant gowns worn by a royal bride; designed by Ove Harder Finseth it featured yards and yards of silk crepe and tulle silk in a simple long-sleeved bodice and skirt that moved like a cloud.
Following a car ride through the city back to the Palace, the newlyweds appeared on the balcony ahead of a gala reception.
Haakon and Mette-Marit now have two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus.
