Queen Anne of Romania Passes Away

Queen Anne of Romania has passed away at the age of 92, the Romanian Royal Family has announced today.

She passed away at 13:45 local time August 1 at the hospital in Morges, Switzerland with four of her daughters by her bedside. Last rites were read yesterday by the priest from the Roman Catholic parish in the city. The statement also said that her husband, King Mihai I, had been with her every day while she was in the hospital.

Anne was born a Princess of Bourbon-Parma in September 1923, the only daughter of Prince René of Bourbon-Parma and Princess Margrethe of Denmark. In June 1948, Anne married the former King of Romania, Mihai, in a ceremony attended by many royals in Athens. They had five daughters: Margareta, Elena, Irina, Sophie and Maria.

Funeral details will be announced tomorrow.
