July 22, 1964: In Sintra, Portugal Prince Amedeo, 5th Duke of Aosta married the ninth child of Henri, Count of Paris, Princess Claude of Orléans.

Among the guests at the wedding were the former King Umberto II and Queen Marie Jose of Italy, uncle and aunt of the groom, as well as the future King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain (Amedeo and Claude first met at their wedding in 1962).

The bride wore the Aosta family’s ‘Stars and Knots’ diamond tiara that was given to Princess Hélène of Orléans when she married the 2nd Duke of Aosta in 1895.

After three children (Bianca, Aimone and Mafalda), the couple were divorced in 1982, before receiving an annulment from the Catholic Church in 1987.
