Royals In Germany For CHIO Aachen Opening
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden joined Princess Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg at the opening of the CHIO Aachen equestrian event in Aachen, Germany today. It is the largest equestrian event in the world.
The Queen, wearing a vibrant red outfit, officially opened the event, delivering a speech in front of the 40,000-strong audience after she and the King arrived in a horse-drawn carriage. Sweden is the partner country of the event for 2016, and thus the opening ceremony was held with a Swedish theme including Gotland ponies, midsummer dances and vikings.
Queen Silvia had also given a short interview published on the CHIO Aachen website in which she said that her two young granddaughters, Princesses Estelle and Leonore, were fans of horses: “Estelle loves horses and also the individual rituals that go hand in hand with them… At the age of just two, little Leonore has an incredible confidence in horses.”Filed under Denmark, Germany, Sweden
