A Hearty Welcome In Liverpool For Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip
Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh received a rapturous welcome during their visit to Liverpool today for a day of engagements.
The couple arrived by train, a number of locals gathering at the station to be among the first to catch a glimpse of the visiting royals, before heading to International Festival for Business where Elizabeth and Philip were shown several new technological items that were on display.
It was then to lunch at Liverpool Town Hall, where the Queen and Prince Philip stepped out on to the balcony despite to greet the large crowd that had filled Castle Street below.

Afterwards, the pair – the Queen in a pale pink outfit by Stewart Parvin with a matching Angela Kelly hat – were present for the official opening of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. But here not everyone was as enthused about the monarch – the 3-year-old young man in charge of presenting Queen Elizabeth with a bouquet of flowers burst into tears straight afterwards and was quite inconsolable!
Queen Elizabeth and the Duke were given a tour of the new hospital, including stops at the oncology ward and the inpatient ward – the largest children’s hospital in Europe that is located within a park – and met several patients and staff.Filed under The United Kingdom
