Long to Rain Over Us
Weather would not dampen such a momentous occasion. Peter Philips began setting up for the Patrons Lunch on the Mall last night after his busy day at the Trooping.
Guests started to arrive early and tucked in to their special selected M&S hampers. Containing the likes of a chicken roulade salad using roasted free-range meat from Pembrokeshire, Wye Valley asparagus and Cornish potatoes, while sandwiches include Roast Northern Irish beef with horseradish and baby watercress. A mini Piccalilli Pork Pie has been hand-crafted by expert bakers in Melton Mowbray, with a “Posh” raspberry Royale for dessert made from fruit grown in Norfolk. The hamper will be served with Pimm’s, Windsor Apple juice – produced with fruit grown in Suffolk – and Scottish Spring Water.
The Patrons Lunch Parade began with a replica Britannia floating up The Mall followed by Pigs and Cows on bicycles representing The Queen’s love of animals.
Peter and Autumn Phillips, Zara Philips & Mike Tindall popped out onto the Palace balcony to look at the view of the street party. After their grandparents arrived back at Buckingham Palace from Windsor. The Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Andrew all took turns to peer out the windows. The Princess Royal, Vice Admiral Tim Laurence, Prince Andrew and the York Princesses walked from BP to The Mall and The Cambridges and Henry arrived via car.
Lady Louise Mountbatten- Windsor experienced her first royal walkabout and chatted happily to guests. All royals walked about and took “sections” of the crowd to chat to. The rain finally eased off for the crowd.
The Queen and Prince Philip viewed the parade via the open top state review car. The Queen wearing cerise pink, and Prince Philip both waved to the crowds. Philip even told the driver to speed up on one occasion.
The Duke of Cambridge spoke about his grandmother thanking her for everything she’s done for the family. The Queen quipped in her speech about “”How I will feel if people are still singing Happy Birthday in December remains to be seen.”
The parade on The Mall goes through all of the decades during The Queen’s reign. The swinging sixties started it off. Her Majesties face simply lit up when seeing a replica of Britannia march down the Mall. Princess Michael was eagerly snapping pictures on her phone, whilst many royals waved to passers-by.
We were treated to a wonderful performance by legendary ballerina Darcey Bussell involved The Queens famous handbag. The Queen looked quite emotional during the finale when her patronages thanked her for her contributions.
