On This Day: Wedding of Constantijn and Laurentien

On this day in 2001 prince Constantijn of The Netherlands married Laurentien Brinkhorst in a religious ceremony in the Grote Kerk in The Hague. Today they celebrate their crystal wedding: 15 years. The couple had known each other for a long time. Their mothers were friends form the time they both studied in Leiden while in 2001 Laurentien’s father served as minister of agriculture.

Two days before the religious wedding the couple already had their civil marriage in the old town hall of the city. Prince Constantijn says however that they celebrate their wedding anniversary on the day of the religious wedding.

Princess Laurentien was wearing a dress from Brussels by the house of Natan for both occassions. The  ivory coloured dress was madeof radzimir silk and the train was 3,65 meters long. The new princess wore the laurel wreath diademe that was given to Princess Beatrix by her parents.

Among the guests were King Constantine of Greece – godfather of the prince- the Crown Princely couple of Belgium, the Crown Princess of Sweden, the Crown Prince of Norway and his fiancé Mette-Marit Tjessem Hoiby. It was also one of the first public appearances of Máxima Zorreguieta, who would marry Crown Prince Willem-Alexander in February 2002.
