From the Royal Genealogy threads – April 2016

Here we go with the updates from our Royal Genealogy Threads, with the news from April 2016.

Births:

April has been another busy month for the royal stork. On 8 April Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein and Princess Basmah of Jordan welcomed their third daughter, Princess Badiya bint Hamzah.

On 19 April in Stockholm Princess Sofia of Sweden, the wife of Prince Carl Philip, gave birth to the couple’s first child, Prince Alexander, Duke of Södermanland. He is the fifith granchild for the King and Queen of Sweden and their third grandson.

Five days later, on 24 April, Prince Carlos of Bourbon-Parma was born in The Hague; he is the third child and first son of Prince Carlos Xavier and Princess Annemarie of Bourbon-Parma, titular Duke and Duchess of Parma; as the heir apparent to his father’s titles, he bears the title of Prince of Picenza.

It is also worth mentioning the births of Lord Basil Douglas-Hamilton, third son of the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton and Brandon (on 4 April), of Count Lorenz von Toerring Jettenbach, third child and son of Count Carl Theodor and Countess Natalia von Toerring-Jettenbach (on 11 April), and of Count Leonhard von Faber-Castell, eldest child of Count Charles Alexander and Countess Melissa von Faber-Castell (on 14 April).

Pregnancies:

In early April it was revealed that Prince and Princess Amedeo of Belgium, Archduke and Archduchess of Austria-Este, are expecting their first child in May. It will be the first grandchild for Prince Lorenz and Princess Astrid of Belgium, as well as the first great-grandchild for King Albert and Queen Paola of Belgium.

Two pregnancies have also been announced within the Brazilian Imperial Family: Alexander James Spearman and his wife, Princess Amelia of Orléans-Braganza (daughter of Prince Antonio and Princess Cristina of Brazil) are expecting their first child, while her cousin Isabel and her husband Count Alexander zu Stolberg-Stolberg are expecting their second child.

Engagements & marriages:

On 5 April the engagement was announced between Prince Nicolas Sapieha-Kodenski, son of Prince and Princess Stefan Sapieha-Kodenski, and Camille Kumps.

On 2 April Prince Charles-Adrien de Merode married to Guadalupe de Lascurain Corcuera; he is the third child of Prince Charles-Louis de Merode and of his wife, née Countess Clotilde d’Oultremont.

Deaths:

Princess Sara bint Saud Al Kabeer died on 12 April 2016; she was a member of a collateral branch of the Royal Family Saudi Arabia, which descend from an uncle of Ibn Saud, the first King of Saudi Arabia.
