May 6, 1935: the British Royal Family gathers in London to celebrate the silver jubilee of King George V.

Among the celebrations were a carriage ride through the streets of the capital, a thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, and a balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace.

Here are some photographs from the day, including the adorable little Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret in matching coats and cloche hats.

I love all the photos. The one of the Queen Mother as a young woman, being the Duchess of York at the time,is my particular favorite. Well, she will always be my favorite. She looks so lovely!

  2. Mark, Graf v. Hohenstein says:

When my cousin visited the Tyrol with her parents Princess Mary Adelaide and Franz, Graf v. Hohenstein, May would register as ‘Mary von Hohenstein’, for privacy reasons. As Churchill said, ‘Every inch a Queen.’
