Tax Authorities Will Investigate Infanta Pilar’s Offshore Firm

A spokesperson of the Spanish tax authorities has announced that they have started an investigation into the firm that Infanta Pilar, sister of King Juan Carlos, has had for forty years in Panama.

Yesterday it became clear that the princess is one of the names that has been mentioned in the ‘Panama papers’.  The papers show that hundreds politicians and celebrities have offshore accounts in Panama, possibly to evade taxes in their own countries.

The Spanish tax service explained that they will investigate if the transactions of the infanta were legal or not. Having an offshore firm in Panama is not illegal perse. The infanta is not the only Spanish person targetted by the tax authorities. They will also investigate firms by football player Lionel Messi and by the movie director Pedro Almodóvar.
