The German President Farewells Belgium

The third and last day of the German state visit to Belgium started today, Thursday March 10, with a visit in the Municipality of Liege.

Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde accompanied President Joachim Gauck and his partner Daniela Schadt for a visit at the EVS Broadcast Equipment SA. The EVS is a technology company leader in the sector of video production founded in 1994. At their arrival they were wecomed by the CEO of EVS Muriel De Lathouwer and Pierre Rion, Chairman of the EVS Board, who accompanied the guests on a tour through the company headquarter.

Afterwards the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple attended two receptions: the first one was held at the Liege City Hall where they were greeted by the Mayor Willy Demeyer and the second reception took place at the Prince-Bishops’ Palace, house of the Provincial Government where they were welcomed by Hervè Jamar, Governor of the Province and Andrè Gilles, President of the Provincial College. The King, the Queen, the President and Mrs Schadt signed the Golden Book.

A luncheon took place along with representatives of the Walloon policy and the Province of Liege.

In the afternoon, King Philippe, Queen Mathilde, President Gauck and Mrs Schadt went to the Municipality of Eupen, the Capital of the German-speaking Community of Belgium. In the Heidelberg Monastery took place a roundtable meeting titled: “Cross-border cooperation in Euroregio Meuse-Rhine”. The Meuse-Rhine Euroregion was created in 1976. Were present Karl-Heinz Klinkenberg, Mayor of Eupen and Oliver Paasch, President of the Government of the German-speaking Community.
