Happy Birthday Crown Prince Naruhito!

Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan celebrates his 56th birthday today and marked the occasion with a customary press conference, together with the release of a new video showing the heir to the Chrysanthemum Throne chatting happily with his wife, Crown Princess Masako and their fourteen-year-old daughter, Princess Aiko.

In the press conference, the Crown Prince expressed his hopes that the the people still affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami living in north-eastern Japan, will be able to rebuild their lives as soon as possible.

His Imperial Highness also spoke of the 70th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War and, most movingly, about his hopes that Crown Princess Masako will “expand the range of her activities step by step, without impatience”, in regard to her on-going recovery of the stress-related illnesses she has suffered in the last few years.

We wish His Imperial Highness a very Happy Birthday!
